Making Fitness A Priority

Making Fitness A Priority

Fitness - push up

Why is it that some people don’t turn up to the gym and others never miss a session at all? My opinion is that it comes down to priorities. What one feels is important is not necessary important to another. Health should be everyone’s priority and there are exemptions to “health” as a priority such as family and work (income). But if being the best version of yourself you can and nourishing your body with good food and exercise isn’t your top 3 then I think you should reconsider your priorities. As a personal trainer of course I am going to preach the importance of health and fitness. At the end of the day, you only have one body to last you this lifetime, so INVEST in it and not on material possessions.

Some people will use “I’ve had a hectic day at the office and the last thing I want to do is workout”. Well, if you sit and think about it, even though you may not want to workout, if it is important to you, you will dig deep and find a way to get your butt to the gym. A one hour session takes up 4% of your day and yet people still manage to make a reason not to get their butt to the gym? I have had members who work from 630am to 630pm and they still manage to get to their sessions. I have members who come off night shift and do a workout before they go to bed. I also have the opposite where members come in for a session before they go to night shift and I have members who are up at 3am to start work yet they are at their sessions straight after work. It is their PRIORITY. If weight loss / health / fitness are important goals, then the last thing you want to be doing is cancelling your session because you have a headache or your sore from the workout before.

Scheduling your sessions into your diary and making a commitment to yourself will ensure you continue forward towards your goals. Would you cancel a doctor’s appt? Or an x ray, a blood test or a dentist’s appointment? These appointments are making sure your health is an an optimal level so then why cancel your gym session? At the end of the day, if going out to coffee, mid week dinner plans or a sports grand final are stopping you from committing to 4% of your day, then maybe you need to invest more time in yourself and make your health a priority.
