I had always struggled with my weight and even more so with the motivation to keep going once I started. I had not weighed myself in many years and in Oct 2011 I hopped on the scales and was horrified at the three HUGE numbers, almost mid 100’s. I knew right then and there that I had to change.

I began working out at my local gym 6 days a week, completely transformed my nutrition and had dropped a considerable amount of weight. I was feeling good and was in control of my life for the first time in years. I continued this trend until I went overseas on a month long holiday. When I returned, I soon worked out my old gym routine just wasn’t cutting it anymore. I had seen an ad for a one on one session and when I enquired I was promised a “different style” of training and guaranteed results. What could I have to loose? I still remember my first session and wasn’t sure if I wanted to cry, vomit, pass out or die. Somehow I made it to the end and despite the pain I felt during the workout, it was far outweighed by the feeling of satisfaction when I had finished. From that moment on I knew this was going to be exactly what I needed.

Fast-forward almost 2 years later, I am leaner, stronger and definitely fitter than I can ever remember being; I am ADDICTED. I look forward to the challenges that face me each and every time I step into the gym. I love the variety and the growth that comes with functional training. I have also made some wonderful friends in this time. There is definitely a sense of family, who constantly motivate and inspire each other to succeed. I cannot remember a life before it. My life has transformed in ways I could never imagine all thanks to StrengthCity.*

Well where do I start… I pretty much have struggled with my weight all my adult life. Once I had kids it was harder and harder to lose the weight as I’d put on approx 30kgs with each of my 4 kids, so by the last one I definitely was on struggle street.

I’ve joined gyms but having kids I had to pay a babysitter to go and I was finding it less and less motivating to go and all I would use was the treadmill or cross-trainer. So I ended up cancelling my membership. I went on Michelle Bridges for the 12wks which I loved as I was doing the workouts at home, and was eating as close to Michelle’s recommendations while still having to cook for a family.  I lost 7kgs, I was stoked that I was losing weight.  But once the 12wks were up that was it there was no more online support I was cut off from all food recipes and the workouts. So the weight started going up again.

Then one day my friend told me about a place that does transformation packages.  I was like yeah ok I’ll come give it a go.  I had never done this type of package before so I didn’t know what to expect. Oh my goodness it was hard! In my first class, we had to do pull ups using a band to assist us in getting our chin above the bar…well I couldn’t even do that. So one of the coaches had me scale and do Ring Rows instead. I couldn’t wait for that class to finish & I was out of there! I remember walking away from that class thinking I’m never going back again. But the next day I was back again and that was it I was addicted!

A year on I’m still going and have never felt so good about myself.  I’ve lost a total of 16kg and I’m leaner than I’ve ever been, I weigh more than I use to but my measurements are far smaller.  I can even fit into my school skirt!! I’m stronger than I’ve ever been and I look forward to what each day brings at the gym.

Back in January I got diagnosed with arthritis in both of my knees.  It devastated me. All I wanted to do was quit. I wasn’t allowed to squat more than 30 degrees, no running, no jumping pretty much nothing that would put pressure on my knees.  I spoke to Chloe about where to go from here. She said not a problem I could still workout and I was so happy.  So my workouts were scaled to suit me and my injuries.  Now my knees are touch and go, some days I can squat and not have to scale but other days I just have to do something else.  I feel like I’m being a pain having to ask “what can I do” but both Rhys and Chloe always have an option for me.

I would highly recommend StrengthCity to anyone and everyone.  I doesn’t matter what your fitness level is or if you’ve got injuries you’ll get addicted to it like me.*

I always struggled with losing weight but keeping it off was another struggle!!  I lacked the motivation as I hated going to packed gyms and I hated dieting…. I was unfit and insecure about my body but I just didn’t know where to start… Then one day I saw an advertisement for a 12 week challenge and I thought this is what I need!!! I need someone to encourage and inspire me to push myself to get the results I could only dream of….

I still remember the very first session….. It was brutal but funnily enough I pushed through to the end and I loved it!! It made me feel alive, and from that day on I was ADDICTED…. Day in & day out I put 110% into every session and then when I started seeing the results I knew that all my blood sweat and tears were worth it!!! I couldn’t have done it without the constant support and guidance of Chloe & Rhys. They have changed my life for the better. I’m fitter, stronger, healthier and happier than I have ever been and not to mention the new friends I’ve made along the way it’s like a little family.

The atmosphere at the gym is amazing. It’s intimate and everyone is supportive and encourages one another to push that little bit harder!!! To be honest you couldn’t ask for better trainers (who actually practice what they preach!) I would highly recommend StrengthCity to anyone, I know I won’t be leaving StrengthCity anytime soon… so I’ll see you there ☺*

JESSICA BUDD

My name is Jessica and I am 24 years old and I have been training at StrengthCity and absolutely loving it. The person you would see now is very different to the person I was not too long ago.

I spent roughly 2 years with an eating disorder and depression. I was on antidepressants which took me from depressed to apathetic. I decided to sign up for the 28 day challenge at StrengthCity as I’d heard about it through my partner. I didn’t know how I would find the energy and enthusiasm for exercise but I went along anyway. In addition to this I also have an adverse reaction to adrenaline which causes significant distress in my body when I perform certain exercises. With all these challenges I was facing I decided to commit anyway.

From the first session I felt empowered because I worked harder than I ever thought I could. I surpassed my expectations of what I am capable of. The trainers were so encouraging and despite all I was facing they knew I could still work hard and achieve my goals. Carrying an arm injury, my trainers didn’t let me slack off. They accommodated my injury and found alternative exercises for me to do to ensure I kept on track to reaching my goals. This showed me that even with injury or illness there is always an alternative which still keeps you active and getting stronger.

The trainers at StrengthCity helped me with my eating plan, which promoted healthy eating to support muscle growth. This helped me to accept my new fit body and becoming more comfortable with putting on lean muscle following barely eating for two years.

With guidance to perform exercises correctly and constant guidance around eating, I felt very supported in my journey. Overcoming depression happened so rapidly I could hardly believe it. Going through my challenge with a great group of girls also helped so much in getting me back each day as I felt part of a group and more motivated to show up.

After only 4 short weeks I was off antidepressants and feeling much happier and more confident.

StrengthCity gave me a new direction for my life and inspired me to achieve my fitness goals. I can’t recommend StrengthCity enough. My first class at StrengthCity has been a defining moment in my life. I can’t wait to see the changes I go through in the future as I get stronger.*

TAMARA BURRISS

From a very early age I’ve never really had to worry about my fitness, as my father threw me into every martial arts class he could. The more varied and challenging the better. I’ve always trained hard and with a specific purpose in mind. But at some point this caught up to me. At 20, I had more injuries then I could count; torn cartilages, frozen rotator cuffs, damaged discs in my lower back and a jaw that dislocated regularly.

I was unable to train and unable to move without severe pain. Angry with myself and at my martial arts for the damage that had been inflicted, I began putting on weight. Which in fact caused my injuries to get worse. At 21 I got a wake up call, my chiropractor told me that if I didn’t do something with my injuries soon I wouldn’t be walking in my old age. So I joined a gym and met my old trainer who took me through rehab and taught me how to Olympic lift. The muscle I was building stabilised my injuries and I was able to get back into training. When I turned 23 she left to go home to Sweden and I stopped lifting weights. The injuries came back slowly. My movements were slower and my knee began to give out again. The back pain returned and I was really unhappy with my general fitness. I realised too late that I had been relying on her to keep myself focused.

At the beginning of this year I started teaching and looked around at the types of lifestyles I saw in the occupation and realised I needed to make a change. I saw an advertisement on Facebook for a gym and decided I’d apply and see what it was like. A day later I got a phone call from Rhys to set up an appointment. We talked about my goals and my overall state of fitness. Then on the Monday I started at StrengthCity. 

It’s been over 30 weeks at StrengthCity now and I’m hooked. The knowledge I’ve gained from training and nutritional classes has really helped to improve my life and my health. During this time I’ve even completed a fitness competition and lost a massive 10kgs in the process. I’m faster and stronger in my martial arts training then I ever was. I have even managed to start training without a knee brace.  I’m in the best shape of my life and being able to see my goals achieved has only made me want to be better in every aspect of my life. 

I can say without any doubt that if it wasn’t for the support and advice of my amazing trainers Rhys and Chloe I would never have achieved these kinds of results. As trainers they continually strive to improve their knowledge and techniques to help support the different needs of their clients. They even take the time to teach the knowledge their clients need to live a healthy lifestyle. 

They make sure that the sessions are intense and diverse and both Chloe and Rhys make sure that your weaknesses soon become your strengths. They’ve pushed me to learn and to motivate myself into a new way of thinking and I couldn’t thank them enough for this. StrengthCity has changed my life forever.*

When I started at StrengthCity, I had zero confidence in myself. I hated my appearance and I hated my body; which in turn lead me to despise myself. I had known for ages that I needed to do something, and I knew that once I started that I’d be on track, I just hadn’t found the right track to start. So when I got the call responding to a StrengthCity Facebook ad, I had no idea of the physical/mental/emotional journey I was about to embark on.

The physical changes to my body have been one awesome thing all in itself, but the thing I’m most proud about are the emotional and mental changes that have happened within me. They ARE my biggest achievement. I’m finally at a place where I accept that I HAVE fat, not AM fat, that working hard in the gym AND the kitchen go hand in hand, and most importantly, I continue working out because I LOVE myself. I love my body, and I WANT to care for it.

A lot of these changes I had to make in my own head, but they were fast tracked and guided by the insane dedication and care from Chloe and Rhys. As trainers they went far above and beyond, even banding together with me and another girl through a body building competition. It’s really great to be part of a community, and not just a gym. I am SO grateful that I had the opportunity to learn and grow from them.*

 

RHYS KINGSFORD

The photo on the left was me at the end of a trip to Hawaii. I had just spent the last three weeks partying hard, indulging in American food, drinking copious amounts of beer and definitely no gym. I returned feeling bloated, lacking energy and looking chubby. I knew I had to get back into shape fast. So I put myself on the same training and nutritional principles we teach you and this got me looking ripped and feeling strong and healthy again. I shredded 6kg of fat, increased muscle mass and strength, and had the physique I was proud of.*

“When I went to StrengthCity I had a goal in mind, which was so far out of my comfort zone, so I went without a lot of people knowing so I could give it my best shot. Chloe and Rhys pushed me to find my strengths and work on my weakness. I did so many personal bests! 92.5kg deadlifts! 🏋🏼🏋🏼 I followed my meal plans, was totally focused every day and meal prepped every week. My body assessment was every 4 weeks which kept me on track. I never missed a training session! I loved the weekly challenges! Doing things I haven’t done since a child! Eg – handstands! I loved my time at StrengthCity. JAMES O’REILLY

18 months ago after gaining 10 Kg due to an injury at work and a broken leg motorbike riding I decided it was time to go to the gym and lose the extra weight and build some muscle. I decided on a gym, paid over $1000 upfront for a 12 month membership, bought all of my gym gear and ended up going in there twice. Both times I felt intimidated by the people in there and by the array of machines, there was no one to talk to, no one I could ask questions and no one to work out with. I ended up deciding I was too busy at work and stopped going.
6 months ago just after my old membership ran out I saw an ad on Facebook for a new gym called StrengthCity, they were offering one on one coaching, monthly weigh ins, dietary advice, meal plans and suggestions and daily planned work outs. I went in to have a chat with Chloe where she explained what was involved and what they had to offer and decided to give it a try for a few weeks.  The first day I went in I met  a group of guys and girls in a very similar situation to what I was in. They knew they wanted to get fitter and healthier but didn’t know how to achieve it. Straight away I felt a lot more comfortable and with Rhys and Chloe’s help I began to to see results really quickly.
The workouts are NOT easy, the gains DO take time to achieve but in only 6 months at StrengthCity I have gone from a 38 waist to a 34, I have lost the extra 10 Kg, I have almost doubled the weight I am lifting in almost every lift and my knee and back issues have really improved.
Instead of being a chore that has to be done 4 days a week, I now look forward to going to the gym and catching up with all of my mates. The small session sizes and group work outs mean everybody knows each other by name and we all offer each other help, support and a kind word during some of the more strenuous workouts. I have taken control of my diet, my body and my life. I have much more energy and motivation than I used to and my stress levels are way down. For me joining StrengthCity is one of the best life choices I have made.

CRAIG TETLY

My name is Craig and I’m 44 years old. In December 2013 I looked in the mirror and was very unhappy with what I saw so I weighed myself and at 138kg, I got a big shock. I’ve always been an active person but I was finding it harder to do everyday things like mow the lawn and keep up with my two little girls aged 3 years and 16 months. It was at this point I knew I had to do something about it.

I had heard people at work talking about StrengthCity so I decided to give their classes a go. So at the start of December my first session was a one on one with Chloe and boy I thought I was going to die but I got through it. When I started I couldn’t even string one skip together, run 200m without stopping and didn’t have the strength to lift weight.

In just 3 short months I now run most of my workouts without stopping, can do 300 single skips, I have a back squat of 105kg, a front squat of 90kg and a deadlift of 145kg. Beside all the person records I have been achieving, I’ve lost 33kg! I am feeling great, have more energy to work and play with the kids but none of this would be possible without hard work and support from my coaches and the gym family and to them I thank from the bottom of my heart as they have helped me take back control of my life.
