We all have the same intentions going into the New Year: set resolutions and hope to see amazing results. Whether you’re trying to lose weight, eat healthier, become a vegetarian, build muscle, or even run a marathon, we are all in this together.
Here are some simple steps to keep those resolutions and stay motivated not just in the beginning of 2017, but through December and into 2018!
MAKE MONTHLY GOALS
Want to lose 20kg? Run a marathon? These can seem overwhelming and unachievable. Break them up into smaller goals. How about losing 500g to 1kg per week (which is a healthy and sustainable weight loss). So every month, you would be losing anywhere between 2 and 4kg. How about to run a marathon? We both know that your not going to run 41km straight up but setting up a monthly plan will keep you on track, for example, month 1: run 5km without stopping (obviously broken down into a weekly plan to achieve this monthly one). Month 2: Run 10km without stopping. And so forth. What about for a goal like “eating healthy”? Personally I dont think this is specific enough. How about, in Jan, I will only drink alcohol on two occasions? Or I will eat veggies with two meals a day, drink 3L of water etc. and create new healthy “habit” goals each month. Now that seems achievable! By giving yourself a shorter time period to accomplish those goals, you are may be more likely to complete them!
WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS
Everyone has a social media account of some sort and it’s easy to publish your goals to the world and make you feel more accountable for them. If you don’t want to put it out there for the world to see, there are still many ways to write your goals down. You can do it the old-fashioned way and write them in a journal or on a white board, but where ever you place your goals, make sure they are in a place where you can view them daily. Having this visual is extremely powerful!
This doesn’t mean, “wow Ive lost 5kg, I can treat myself to a cake!”. Remember, your not a dog, DO NOT REWARD YOURSELF WITH FOOD!
