1. Cut The Sugar!
Bacteria and fungus feed directly on sugars. They multiply when the environment becomes acidic and the digestive pH levels are affected. Sugar causes damage to the gut wall lining. So when the gut flora is altered, “bad” bacteria inflame the intestinal tract and create what is called a “leaky gut”. The digestive system becomes less efficient and starts letting out unwanted toxins through the gut wall and into our bodies, resulting in bloating.
2. Avoid Alcohol
Consuming high volumes of alcohol is detrimental to gut health. Beer, for example, is high in yeast, which converts alcohol into sugar. Beer also contains barley, a grain which some people are unknowingly allergic to. Barley grains have a higher concentration of enzymes needed to convert the starch in the grain into sugar, which can cause stress on gut function. Spirits can also cause intestinal irritations and thinning of the gut lining, especially in people who do not eat the correct amount of fats required for healthy gut function.
3. No Bread
Bread is a key component in creating bloating. Its high sugar content, combined with yeast, which is a fermenting agent used for baking bread, releases gas into the intestinal tract during digestion. As yeast is a form of fungus, it causes stress on the digestive system. If you love bread, stick with gluten-free (for sensitive stomachs) or sourdough bread rich in seeds and nuts. Most breads are high in other additives which are used for bleaching or fortifying them with vitamins and minerals. These additives are synthetic and may cause allergic reactions in an overloaded system.
4. Ditch the Carbonated Drinks
Fizzy drinks contain high volumes of sugar and also contain some form of carbonation. This is created using carbon dioxide, which, once ingested, forms pockets of gas within the intestinal tract and colon, producing wind and belching. Another additive to fizzy drinks is phosphoric acid, which produces a burning feeling when you drink it quickly. The pH levels are altered, creating an acidic environment, perfect for cultivating fungi.
So for a flat and healthy stomach ditch the unnecessary crap that is also bad for overall health!
