8 Amazing Wellness Habits For Living Your Best Life

The following 8 Habits are something that I have incorporated into my life over the last 2-3 years that have an a huge impact to my physical, social and emotional wellbeing.

Journalling

At the start of each year I get myself a nice new A5 notebook / journal – something pretty and inspiring. I don’t make myself journal every single night but most nights I will get it out and write it in. I will write about my day. What im feeling emotionally. Things that I learnt. Things that I want to let go of. Ideas. Thing I am grateful for. Its very cathartic. Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • Your ideal day
  • Your life goals
  • Where you would like to live
  • Thoughts on judgement
  • Your strengths
  • Biggest fears
  • What impact you would like to make

Cold Pressed Juice

Hubby bought me a cold pressed juicer for our anniversary.. so practical! But I am in love and he is even on the wagon. Cold pressed juice is a better way to extract nutrients from the fruit and veg and drinking it each morning on an empty stomach can help with gut health, immunity, increase energy, decrease mental fogginess and act as an anti-inflammatory. My daily juice consists of:

  • 5 Celery Stalks
  • 1 Green Apple
  • 1 Cucumber
  • 1 cup Pineapple
  • 1 cup Watermelon
  • 3 cups Spinach
  • 3 Broccoli Stalks
  • 1 Carrot

Optional Extras: 6 drops Lemon Essential Oil (certified pure therapeutic grade only), 3 drops Ginger Essential Oil (certified pure therapeutic grade only), 2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar

Yin Yoga

Yin is an introspective practice that offers a chance to turn inward and nurture the calm, quiet centre that is innate in all of us. It requires you to do only a handful of poses but hold them for a few minutes each. Here are some other benefits:

  • Helps the body restore range of motion
  • Revitalises the tissues of the body
  • Cultivate gratitude for the body
  • Forces us to slow down
  • Teaches self compassion
  • Taps into our parasympathetic nervous system
  • More resilient to stress
  • Cultivates balance

Grounding

Grounding, also called earthing, is a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that “ground” or electrically reconnect you to the earth. This practice relies on earthing science and grounding physics to explain how electrical charges from the earth can have positive effects on your body. Suggested grounding activities:

  • Diffusing essential oils
  • Going for a walk barefoot
  • Swimming in the ocean
  • Meditate in nature

Reading

My personal fave is a good old personal development book and right before bed. It helps me swutch off for the night which feeding my personal and emotional growth. Some of my recommendations:

Myofascial Release

In the form of either foam rolling or acupressure mat. Again, fantastic way to finish the day before you jump into bed. I like to lay on my acupressure mat fo about 10-20mins and you can multi-task by either laying with you legs up the wall or reading that self development book! Both these techniques will increase mobility assisting in injury prevention and management as well as grounding.

Plants

I am a crazy plant lady and not only does having a heap of plants in the house make it look vibrant, it also has a lot of health benefits including:

  • Reducing carbon dioxide levels
  • Increasing humidity
  • Reducing levels of certain pollutants, such as benzene and nitrogen dioxide
  • Reducing airborne dust levels
  • Keeping air temperatures down

They also emit negative ions. The most important benefit of negative ions is that they clear the air of airborne allergens such as pollen, mould spores, bacteria and viruses.

Aeroplane Mode

This has been a wellness habit of mine for a while now. Before I go to bed I put my phone on aeroplane mode. This shut off the signals to the phone and I place it in my draw. Reducing the amount of electromagnetic signals is extremely important for our health. It is also like a switch – once its on aeroplane mode, thats it, bedtime.
